By now, the news about what a US student had written about her experiences in India would have come on every news channel and several social networking sites. Ok, what the girl went through was an unfortunate experience and I hope it never happens to anyone ever again. But what I don't quite understand is the amount of apologies and vitriolic comments people have written about India and how ashamed they feel to be an Indian. How come they have not done the same for our own people? Why did they not apologize to our Indian girls whose lives have been marred with acid attacks, eve teasing, rape, humiliation, gender bias and human trafficking? Is it because its so routine that no one bothers any more? The truth is "YES" and its " boring" to see these news all the time.
Has anyone considered what happens in the US and other countries- race issues, the deadly laws about abortion, the right to have OCP pills..? These things should not be happening and we should be ashamed that even in the 21st century, forced marriages, race, caste still prevail.
No, we should apologize for the loss of humanity. I am sorry for that.

Just an additional note by another person who has also expressed such reservation about having an unbalanced view about the article. Here it is-:

"Please have a sense of balance before indulging in beating up all Indian men. Also, take a look at the comments by Indians and foreigners in the original CNN site - the comments are more balanced than the article itself. While some of this is true, this article is only trying to capitalise on the false narrative that everything about India is bad. If a person who has not lived or visited India reads this, they will be left believing that India is in the dark ages where women get raped at will on the roads. This piece is not journalism but a rant from a hypersensitive person and part of the India bashing that has become so fashionable these days. Millions of western tourists visit India, but these kind of extreme views are unheard of. Heck - we were even ruled by the whites for hundreds of years - if we were such rabid rabbits, perhaps they would have returned just in a few years. Indians-pls dont get drawn into such rants, but keep a balanced perspective. Condemn the bad surely, but know that this is not the common reality of India. Just to compare, everyone knows preying behaviour of American men in Thailand and Goa. Does that mean that all American men are vultures. Obviously not. Plus there are different social problems in different countries. If one were to list the huge gaps in the social and moral fabric of USA, the list will be endless. For starters, it is a well known fact that huge majority of children in USA have premarital sex before they turn 16. Is that a good thing for any society. So, bottomline is - they have their weaknesses, we have ours. It is a failure of the media that such writings that only spew venom against society gets clothed in the garb of journalism. In the quest for TRPs and clicks, erstwhile responsible media houses like TOI, DH and CNN have become rabble rousers and foment distrust between peoples. There is absolutely no balance in this article, and is someone's personal psychosis."
